Volkswagen Polo R-Line package available

Volkswagen Australia has revealed the final piece of its new generation Polo puzzle, with the Polo R-Line package on the top spec Polo Comfortline now available to order. Consisting of a bodykit, 16-inch alloy wheels and other sporty details, the R-Line package arrives ahead of the Polo Beats and GTI.

Landing locally in July, the Polo R-Line package will retail for $1,500 on top of the Polo Comfortline $19,490 (plus on-road costs) asking price. This is the first time that an R-Line package has been offered locally on the Polo, with takeup expected to be reasonable – especially with Australia’s love of sporty-styled cars.

Available only on the upper-spec Polo Comfortline, the Polo R-Line package adds a number of sporty touches such as 16-inch alloy wheels in the same ‘Sebring’ style as the Golf R-Line, front foglights with cornering lamps, dark tinted rear windows, R-Line front, side and rear skirts, an R-Line rear spoiler in high gloss black, sports suspension, an R-Line flat-bottomed steering wheel and racier R-Line seat trim with more bolstered front seats. As the Polo R-Line is based on the Comfortline spec, it is equipped with a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine making 85kW of power and 200Nm of torque – it’s available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The R-Line package completes the Volkswagen Polo range in Australia for now, with the sound-lover’s Polo Beats and sportier GTI models also arriving in Australia in August 2018 to compliment the current Polo Trendline and Comfortline range. The R-Line package will no doubt help Polo sales, which are down 16.4 percent to 2,260 units in a segment down just 0.2 percent thanks to limited supply from Volkswagen’s South African factories and the model’s newness to Australian shores.
