Toyota Australia sold nearly a quarter of a million vehicles in 2024 as its hybrid models surpassed 100,000 units, while overall market just overtook 2023’s total
Toyota has set an annual sales record in Australia, delivering 241,296 vehicles during 2024 to beat its previous best calendar-year result of 238,983 in 2008.
It extends the Japanese brand’s continuous run as the nation’s No.1 to 22 years, while it’s the 13th consecutive year Toyota has surpassed 200,000 sales.
December’s total of 95,895 new-vehicle registrations was sufficient to give the overall new-car market a record figure of 1,220,607 to edge past last year’s 1,216,780 units.
Toyota’s 2024 figures were boosted by more than 100,000 hybrid sales, including the RAV4 Hybrid that almost doubled in sales statistics to become the second most-popular vehicle sold during 2024.
Although sales of the Hilux ute were down from 2023, giving way again to the Ford Ranger, the Hilux remained on the podium.
Official industry data released by the FCAI today also reveals that Ford displaced Mazda as the runner-up brand, exceeding 100,000 sales. A 14 per cent year-on-year increase was driven by the ever-popular Ranger and Everest. Mazda sold 95,987 vehicles during 2024, down 4 per cent from 2023.
Medium SUVs were again the most popular vehicle type in 2024, accounting for 278,717 registrations. The ute segment was next with 229,219 registrations.
