Facelifted large seven-seat SUV adds new equipment and fresher look, but prices rise and top out at $73,990 drive-away for the hero X-Terrain
Isuzu’s strong-selling MU-X large SUV has been facelifted for 2025, with fresh body and cabin designs, improved specification, higher prices and new X-Terrain flagship grade.
Four years into this generation’s life cycle, facelifted variants feature a revised suspension tune for improved ride quality, upgraded driver assist, and fresh infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The MU-X updates follow Isuzu’s 2024 facelift of its D-Max ute, which shares drivetrains and platforms with this large SUV.
The MY25 MU-Xs go on sale on March 1, with prices up between $1000 and $2000 over outgoing models.
Available across four grades and ten variants, the range opens at $46,990 drive-away for an MU-X LS-M 1.9L 4×2. The two highest specification 3.0L 4×4 models are also available with drive-away pricing: $69,990 for the LS-T and $73,990 the X-Terrain.
Seven-seat ladder frame rivals include the top-selling Ford Everest and freshly arrived Toyota Prado 250 Series, both priced higher than the Isuzu.
New style, same engines
There are no changes to the MU-X’s powertrains. A 110kW/350Nm 1.9L and stalwart 140kW/450Nm 3.0L four-cylinder turbo-diesels are offered, each mated to a six-speed automatic and choice of 4×2 or 4×4.
Exterior cosmetics have been tweaked rather than revolutionised. Redesigned bi-LED headlights are sleeker and more aggressively angled, there’s a new double horizontal line grille, taller and squared-off soft nose design and new bonnet with full-length creases.
Fender flares, lower skirt trims and side steps are revised and finished depending on model grade, while the rear features a smaller Isuzu badge, revised bumper and LED taillights with a full-width trim piece.
The new X-Terrain mirrors the D-Max X-Terrain with unique (and giant) gloss black grille that has plenty of Ford vibes to it. Gloss black also coats the fog light surrounds, 20-inch alloys (on skinny 50 profile tyres), mirrors and fender flares.
The X-Terrain is the only grade available in hero Slate Grey as seen in the images, this Audi RS-type hue also boosting the model’s sporty aesthetic.
Cabin cleanup
All MU-Xs feature seven seats, and rear chairs can all fold flat to offer up to 2138L cargo capacity.
Seat cloth for LS-M and LS-U grades has been updated using “high grade cloth with vertical wave patterns”, while LS-T and X-Terrain models have perforated leather-accented seats. These are heated and electric across the front row, but no seat ventilation is offered.
The X-Terrain show a sportier side with red stitching throughout the cabin, plus dark grey and piano black trim. It also has red ambient lighting, while the LS-T has more conservative white ambient lighting.
Entry grade fleet special LS-M grades use an updated 4.2-inch multi-information display, while the rest now have a 7.0-inch digital display alongside analogue gauges.
There’s a new look steering wheel, USB-C connectivity, and revised infotainment screens. The LS-M has an 8.0-inch display and the rest use 9.0-inchers. They feature wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but there’s no sign of wireless phone charging.
Off-road and safety improvements
The MU-X’s ground clearance of up to 235mm and 800mm wading depth remains, but Isuzu’s Rough Terrain Mode (RTM) has been refined to work across a wider range of surfaces.
This intelligent traction control system can now work in tandem with the rear differential lock, offering constant mechanical traction across the rear axle while deploying electronic traction control across the front. Previously, the two couldn’t work in unison.
Responding to customer feedback, Isuzu’s improved its tyre pressure monitoring system to display real-time individual tyre pressures and temperatures.

The MU-X’s front camera has been gifted a better field of view to 120-degrees, up from the old 40-degrees. There’s a USB-A port to fit an aftermarket dashcam, while new intelligent adaptive cruise control uses traffic sign recognition to offer the driver the option to match vehicle speed with the posted limit.
Lane keep assist has been improved for less harsh steering correction inputs, and now works from 0-140km/h. It also has traffic jam assist to follow the vehicle in front at speeds up to 60km/h.
Other improvements include rear cross traffic brake, a digital reversing camera and 360-degree surround view monitor for the two top grades.
For off-roaders and towers, there’s a ‘turn view’ showing blind spots when turning, a ‘hitch view’ for lining up a trailer when reversing, plus a live feed virtual ‘under floor view’ with guidelines to help navigate obstacles over tricky terrain.
Prices and ownership
Isuzu’s warranty is long at six-years, but expires after 150,000km. Services costs are set at $469 per visit, which is annually or every 15,000km. That totals $2345 for five years.
